Is my weather app not working on your mobile device?
Every once in a while I’ll get an email or a message that my weather app, ATsWeatherToGo, isn’t working. The majority of the time it’s due to a user error or upgrade that changed some default settings on the mobile device
So here are few things to do to restore data:
- Location Services – Make sure iPhone and Android has location services for the app enabled. iOS will prompt the user upon first install if you want to give location access to the app. If you select “no” or close, then you will block the ability for the app to get your location. Now other apps don’t need that info, but if you want weather data and alerts to dangerous storms that are approaching then it’s something you would want to have! Android also needs your location services enabled and this includes GPS for the most reliable warnings.
- WIFI – If data is not populating, turn off wifi for a minute and let it sync over the cell tower. Sometimes routers don’t share their location to you mobile device and when that happens, the app can’t find you.
- File Corruption – There is an issue in about 1% of the cases where a cache file gets corrupted. Unfortunately at this time the only fix I have is to uninstall the app, reboot the phone, then reinstall the app. Must do those 3 steps, don’t skip the reboot inbetween or it won’t work.
- OS Updates – Make sure you continue to update your mobile device to the latest software updates. Over time, the app will work less and less with older devices and old operating systems. To keep the app modern and advanced it has to move with the industry, so they update, I update, then you update.
On a side note with respect to battery life, it’s the best weather app out there with less than 2% of resources used.
I hope you enjoy the app and thanks for using it! Please be sure to rate it on Google Play store or iTunes. Thanks! -AT
