Our newest GOES satellites offer quite a few more spectrum channels to look at. They can be great at picking up various things such as fires, smoke, storms, dust, snow, etc.
This image highlights snow in green, and there was a lot of it on Thursday morning.
You’ll also notice the effect it had on temperatures. Where the snow accumulated the deepest, temperatures really bottomed out. The coldest readings occur under clear skies, light winds and in valleys.
