Severe Storms, Beneficial Rain, and a Weekend Freeze
After a perfect weekend to do some outdoor yard work in preparation for Spring, we’ll kick start our week with a few severe storms, beneficial rain later in the week, and a weekend freeze.
The Jestream indicates a strong slow-moving wave arriving Thursday and clearing out Saturday. Prior to that, there is a weak disturbance that moves through TX and far SE OK Tuesday. This may be enough to trigger a few severe storms across SE OK Tuesday afternoon/evening.
A weak cold front will move in late Monday across NW OK and stall out across SE OK for Tuesday. A SW wind will crank our temperatures up into the 80s once more before we cool into the 60s for highs on Tuesday.
With the weak front around, one of our high-resolution models indicates quite a bit of mid-level instability across C OK. Should this be realized, some elevated thunderstorms could develop Tuesday afternoon around the OKC metro region with small hail. Other more robust storms would form along the cold front out to the east. Those would move SE during the evening. Hail and damaging wind would be the primary threat with those.
The next round of rain thanks to the Jetstream will move through starting Wednesday night and clearing out Saturday morning. Rainfall totals for the week look pretty decent. As of today, our weekend looks dry but a little chilly in the mornings with a light freeze or frost possible across the state. So cover up any tender vegetation if you’re already planting early!
The temperature trend in OKC has a little bit for everyone. =) -AT
