Summer Heat and Minimal Rainfall

We officially welcomed Summer at the end of last week. From here out we flirt with 100 degrees while our heat index values climb above that often. We do have two opportunities for rainfall this week as well.
The Jetstream pattern shows the upper ridge out to our west to start the week. This will allow a weak disturbance to rotate through Oklahoma on Tuesday triggering showers and storms. The next potential is late Saturday night and Sunday with a very weak cold front that will stall. An upper ridge will move overhead by that point which is sinking air. So the front may not be able to do much.

Assuming we do get the predicted rainfall, here is a blend of model data for amounts. You’ll need to water this week as the plants and grass are already getting stressed in this heat and the ground is starting to dry up quickly.

Regarding the heat, a Heat Advisory will likely be in place all week as heat index values cross the century mark as shown here for Monday. Remember this is a “feel-like” temperature for your body’s ability to cool itself when taking the humidity into account. So I posted some tips below to help.

Temperatures in OKC are going to be in the upper 90s for a while. Usually, the vegetation saves us until it finally dries out and then it becomes easy to hit 100 on the thermometer. Stay cool out there! -AT
