Your Thanksgiving Week Travel Forecast
It’s hard to believe but we’re here! Thanksgiving week is upon us and our weather has shifted into the wild swings from beautiful sunny 70s to windy 30s and 40s overnight. Stronger cold fronts will dominate the weather across the country over the next 7 to 10 days.
Sunday was windy but oh was it warm for late November! The first of a few cold fronts arrived for our Monday to kick start the week and brought wind chills way below freezing in some areas. Expect a light freeze across many areas late tonight and tomorrow morning.
The next front will arrive late Wednesday cooling us down for Thanksgiving as well. Our Thanksgiving will also have a north wind of around 5 to 15 mph and clearing skies in the morning. Friday morning will be very cold across the state as a result.
However, a very strong front will move in over the weekend. Wind chills will fall into the 20s Saturday afternoon as the front pushes through. Expect temperatures to nosedive for Sunday morning. I’ve posted the conservative model blend, but I also show you what is on the table with the ICON model. You’re going to want to bundle up this weekend!
As far as the rest of the country goes, there are two areas for inclement weather, Colorado with snow on Tuesday, and the Northeast on Thanksgiving Day. Snow total maps posted for Thursday and this weekend to show you who sees a white holiday.
With respect to temperatures, watch the animation that dumps round after round of below-normal temperatures out of the Arctic region across Canada and into the US. This is a very cold arctic air pattern, just a little too early to do much with. Look how cold it will be across the country on Thanksgiving morning. You’ll want to bundle up in many areas if traveling!
Regarding the next several days in OKC, here is the trend. Make sure you use my free weather app, ATsWeatherToGo on your travels to keep tabs on any winter storms and to get your personal forecast wherever you’re located! Download it on Apple and Google app stores today. Happy Thanksgiving! -AT
