A follow up to this post. Many companies have increased rates for a variety of reasons. I told my Allstate rep this morning he's going to have to perform a Christmas miracle or we'll be parting ways.
Spoke to two other independent agencies later in the day that can pull in a pool of insurers and that is going to save me a ton of money. Turns out you can put a price on loyalty, jack me up 46% and there is none. Peace out. ✌️

Mind sharing the agencies? Mine went up almost 2k!
Our has gone up significantly year after year... this last year Mike was like you...
Unfortunately it seems that the insurance industry is one business that punishes their customers for loyalty😡
I appreciate your voice on this. I feel like we need to get after more than just the companies on this because this is price gouging at 45%! The saving grace is there is competition among companies and agents to serve us as consumers but for the other bills, not so much. To date, all the extra monies we are paying for basic needs have become a heavy tax on us with no COLA to offset these prices. To charge me for my home being valued at $$$$$ estimated replacement is a scam when it’s only worth $$$ is extortion.
Just did the same thing. After 11 years Liberty mutual quoted $9k a year to add my 16 year old. I knew it would go up, but….shopped around and switched to State Farm - double the coverage for the same price we were paying and added another driver. Good luck, the work is worth it!
I know insurance is a bad word right now and i get it. I’m finding competitive rates with great coverage DAILY! But I can’t say this enough. Please please please don’t compare your rates to someone else’s. There are SOOO many rating factors that go into insurance rates. Coverage is huge. Someone may say I pay $80 a month but you have no idea what they are paying for and people also throw around “full coverage” which again you have no idea what they are paying for. COVERAGE matters for auto and especially homeowners! Look at your dwelling coverage and your deductibles. These are going to be big factors in your rate as well as your roof age. As an independent insurance agent I look at policies constantly and I’m shocked at how many people are under insured. Find an agent who will not only find you a great rate but will explain the coverage and not sacrifice you having a good policy to save you $50.
I do insurance, so this may be a bit of a biased opinion, but with costs of building materials being up 100’s of percentage points, it’s their only option. Companies can either raise rates, cut coverages, or deny claims. Insurance is like everything everything else, you get what you pay for.
We just dropped our carrier of over 30 years of being a loyal customer with little or no claims. We own our home and our home owners insurance went from $2,000 a year in less than 2 years to $4,300 with constant change in agent and no explanation why the increase. We are now paying a lot less. Change is scary but our pocket book could not handle the ridiculous price for coverage.
Do your research! Make sure your at 100% replacement cost on the home and roof! Check your personal property as well to make sure they aren’t shorting you! Also look at all peril deductible and wind and hail deductible. Lastly make sure you have building ordinance law! Your old enough and don’t have kiddos I would look into a 1 million umbrella as it will save you on the house as well. Be sure if you have a class 4 shingle that they apply that discount. Worked for State Farm for 9 years! These days it pays to shop!
People should shop around at a minimum every 5 years but more like every 2. Call the usual suspects but also call an independent agent to search some of the other companies. Make sure they quote you the same coverages.
I’m with Allstate. Last time we shopped around I believe was 3 years ago. You are making me think I need to shop around this year!!!
Maybe everyone needs to consider the source of all these high prices. Start at the top. Do I need to spell it out? Sorry Aaron, but I had to say it.
Mine certainly did with Statefarm. We started out at $290. We are now at $469. Last month it was $380. No notice, no explanation. It is revolting. We can’t pay this!
We are an independent agency and all company increases are approved through the state. If your agent isn't shopping around for you then you should find one that can and one that will explain everything to you.
Yep. I went with progressive and saved money while doubling my coverage. (I had Allstate too)
Our home and car coverage went up to straight ridiculous. We have had USAA for many many years and are shopping other agencies now.
I agree!!! My car insurance went up about $1200 for my 6 month premium. And I’ve had no wrecks and no tickets.
We have had to change a few times in the 14 years we've owned a home here. There seems to be no loyalty reward so we check around every 2 years to make sure we have the best deal. It is important to have a reputable company but you can find people who love or hate any company. Good luck.
Just avoid Progressive completely. Great rates but horrible customer service and forget about filing a claim without a lawyer. It’s ridiculous.
Ours here in Louisiana went up over $300 a month, I paid $627.00 last month. They changed our deductible from $9.700. For hurricane coverage to &15,000.
Car insurance is doing the same this. My husband had a no fault accident and other party had no insurance and ours rose $176 dollars. 😡
I would steer clear of Progressive. Great rates but when you file a claim, they are horrible. I actually had a lawyer who deals with insurance companies tell me that Progressive is one of the worst to deal with.
Mine went WAY UP
Yep I’m looking into the same thing
I had Texas Security General. They went up 45%. Just switched to Roadrunner.

Always stay in your vehicle during this moment! Only exception is if you can quickly run up a hill to escape or jump a barrier. Otherwise this guy was lucky to live.
