Frost, Warming Trend, and I Turn 50!

After a series of recent cold fronts, we’ll start off the week with more frost across the state. Then a gradual warming trend will take place to keep us warm for the rest of October. Rain remains elusive this week and on Sunday I turn half a century.
So far the panhandle of Oklahoma has seen the frost and freezes lately, but that will expand a bit for Monday and Tuesday morning. See temperatures below. Under mostly clear skies and very light winds, temperatures often try to fall near the dewpoint. So it’s these times the frost appears and light freezes sneak into those low-lying valleys.

Another weak cold front will move through Wednesday, but moisture is lacking in the atmosphere. At best all I can see are some weak showers Wednesday evening/night across SE OK. Otherwise, it will be dry this week. Rain beyond this time frame shows up with a very strong signal the following Wednesday and Thursday, so that’s good news. We need this rain as the drought has crept back in. It would be nice to get some much-needed Fall rainfall heading into our typically drier winter season.

As we watch our local weather, something of interest may be brewing in the tropics around the 26th of the month in the Gulf. This may turn into a tropical storm to hit the upper Gulf Coast the last weekend of the month.

The pattern isn’t showing any major cold air intrusions. If anything it looks slightly above normal through the rest of the month. As a result, Halloween looks fairly mild for the trick-or-treaters. That would mean temperatures at sunset in the low 60s. I’ll update you on this a couple of days before.

Here is the OKC temperature trend for this week, which looks quite nice!

Finally, just a personal note about me. I put a little extra in the timetable of this blog because I will be out of pocket next weekend. On Sunday I cross that threshold of half a century. Turning 50 has brought a lot of perspective and self-reflection. It’s an uneasy place that I find myself. Reviewing the past and wondering about the future. Have I done enough? Do I have more to give? What do I want to accomplish next? Do I take more me time and if so, what does that look like? What does the universe have in store for me from this day forward and what will be my role in it? How do I balance my self-ego and the desire to please my creator God almighty? Wisdom is growing exponentially and how I view the world, life, and others, continues to evolve. Turning 50 is something else! So stay tuned!!! -AT
