Spring Storm Season Begins and SWAE
It’s as if Mother Nature knows that the day on the calendar is March 1st. A stormy pattern arrives and brings much-needed rain to the state along with a little bit of severe weather. Oh, and it’s time for the annual Severe Weather Awareness Event at Penn Square Mall this Saturday!
Our unofficial start to the severe weather season in March 15 on average. Looks like this year it will start 2 weeks early. Then again, there’s a last hurrah of arctic air that may invade towards the middle of the month. More on that next weekend. It’s good timing as the drought is expanding.

The Jetstream pattern shows a few upper storm systems moving across the Central Plains with a broad SW flow over the weekend. This will bring several rounds of rainfall to the area. It won’t be a washout, but outdoor activities will be impacted this week.

The Storm Prediction Center and AI models are highlighting a few days of severe storms. The first was today in NE OK and this evening in SC OK. Hail the main threat.

Once Sunday evening storms come to an end, there will be a few showers and sprinkles in SW OK on Monday morning. As that wave travels from SW to NE across the state, it should fall apart. The next round of showers and sprinkles will be on Tuesday evening as a cold front moves into the region. Wednesday evening across SE OK may contain some severe storms, and then the action develops across the body of the state for Thursday and Friday. Some of these may be severe.

Rainfall amounts, when averaged out, look impressive. Let’s hope this pans out!

Temperatures will bounce around a bit this week, but most days will be mild. Don’t go planting early. You’ll regret it unless you protect them every night it dips into the 30s, like tonight!

Be sure to come out and see Jodi and me at this year’s SWAE at Penn Square Mall this Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm. Would love to visit with you!!! -AT
