New Year’s Forecast, a New Weather Channel, and Resolution Time

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and are ready for the new year!
Before we dive into the forecast, I wanted to invite you to join my new Facebook Broadcast Channel. It’s a new feature Facebook recently released on that platform. Supposedly this is a faster and better way to reach you with important messages. As of now, I plan to use this sparingly to notify you of significant weather, blog posts, and that I’m going live. This way you don’t miss the important things. As you know Facebook doesn’t notify you much anymore when I go live or even show you some of my posts, so this should help. To join the other 4000+ followers, you need to have the Facebook Messenger app on your phone and click here: Join The Channel
The weather this week will be dominated by a departing upper low across the central plains. A vort lobe will swing through Oklahoma providing us with some snow flurries Thursday morning as a result. Don’t look for anything to accumulate however. An upper ridge will form in its place which means a strong cold front will arrive just in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Sunday that strong cold front will arrive with gusty north winds over 25 mph. Temperatures will fall below freezing across much of the state. New Year’s Day will be a cold one as well into the 30s. Bundle up!!!

You may be asking, where is all of the snow? Over the next 5 to 7 days fresh powder will blanket many areas to our north with the Rockies getting the brunt of it. We may actually get another light dusting around the 3rd if the pattern cooperates.

All in all it’s going to be your typical cold end to December and a cold start to January. As the pattern gets more active, we’ll see if we can’t time out the moisture just right. Here is the temperature trend in OKC, be sure to use my free weather app, ATsWeatherToGo, to get your backyard forecast as well!
