Drought Expands, Fire Danger Rises
I’m going to make this short, as it’s late getting out for the week.
We experienced record-breaking heat last week, and we’ll go for it again this week. We desperately need rainfall, and other than some very light showers and sprinkles Friday morning with the passing of another cold front, it’s just not in the cards. It’ll be April 3rd or 4th before we get some decent rainfall in parts of the state.

The western half of Oklahoma has suffered quite a bit with the number of days without beneficial rain. The drought is expanding to the extreme category as well.

The fire danger will spread as well due to our current conditions. Do your part to help prevent wildfires from developing.

The Storm Prediction Center keeps us quiet for the rest of the month. Did you recall seeing scary social media posts of severe storms for the last half of March? Where are they now? Call these drifters out and unfollow. Don’t give them anything.

We are still getting late-season cold intrusions, and this time of year, it’s just enough to hurt those sensitive plants. Keep that in mind come Saturday morning. Temperatures could be a little colder than indicated below.

The rest of the week is up and down with wild swings! -AT
